So it appears all but official that the Motorola Atrix 4G, which has been rumored to be launching March 1 on AT&T, has been officially approved by the FCC. Though the FCC documentation doesn’t mention the name “Atrix,” it’s pretty clear that is the device in question. First, it lists the model number as MB860, which Motorola has identified as the Atrix. Add to that the rare (in a phone) 5GHz 802.11n wifi and AT&T’s 3G and HSPA+ bands and it seems pretty well confirmed.

Fierce Wireless today is reporting that HTC’s CEO Peter Chou has confirmed that his company is indeed working on an Android based tablet, despite statements last year from HTC spokesperson Eric Lin saying that, at the time, there were no plans to build a tablet. (a lot can happen in this time, we know, this statement was made last July).

Information for Motorola Olympus appeared recently and was scarce enough, but the premiere of the device is mentioned early 2011 page on Facebook for U.S. operator AT & T, however, show other information as a result of reading matter. The company responded that the phone will be on sale in December or January, and later the answer was deleted as though it is a device that is not presented formally. Although we hoped to see the phone at the earliest at CES 2010 and it seemed quite logical, clearly has a chance to meet with the first Motorola phone with Tegra 2 before the end of the year.

What do you do when you think the ship you are navigating is sinking? Do you go down with the ship like the guys on the Titantic, or do you look for a life raft? Well, despite all the warning signs that Nokia has been receiving over the past 2 years, they are going to stick with their sinking ship, Symbian. Okay, to be fair they will not just be using Symbian, they will also be using MeeGo. Symbian has been the worlds leading OS for a long time, but recently has been feeling pressure coming from the new kid on the bock, Android. Android has been in phones for 3 years now and has all but taken over the top spot from Symbian.
Share of 2010 Q2 smartphone sales to end users by operating system, according to Gartner. IMG Credit: Wikipedia
So Symbian is a dying OS, and everyone knows it, even Nokia skipped over Symbian to use MeeGo on their high-end N series of phones. So what is the problem with MeeGo and why should Nokia have chosen to leave MeeGo in the dust and hop on board the Android express? Well its simple, the Android Market.
Okay, now I know at first glance that might sound ridiculous, but its true. There will never again be a smartphone without some sort of app store attached to it, heck pretty soon there won’t even be a feature phone without one. So it becomes a game of where do the developers want to go. Sure the Android market has problems, lots of problems, but do you know what else it has, lots of users. Currently Nokia has the OVI store, which is nothing to write home about. Really no phones have an App store that is much to care about except the Android Market, and Apple’s App Store. In my opinion this was the biggest reason the Palm Pre/Pixi never took off either. Developers want to go where the platform is easy to work on, and where there are the most potential downloads. Android has both, and I have a hard time seeing a 3rd or 4th app market having any success.
Nokia should just look at Motorala to see what Android can do for a company. Motorola used the Android platform to get off the mat and get their legs back underneath them again. Well they have done so, and then some. Motorola reported a net profit of 109 million dollars in the third quarter compared with 12 million dollars a year ago. Or look at the success that a little company like HTC has seen with Android by its side. HTC recently announced it expects fourth-quarter revenue to more than double to 100 billion New Taiwan dollars (US$3.27 billion) from NT$41 billion a year earlier. But no, Nokia is determined to see this ship sink all the way to the bottom.

We don’t even have an announcement for Android 2.3 yet we’re already hearing about Android 3.0 ‘Honeycomb’. According to a tweet from mobile-review (Eldar Murtazin), Motorola is prepping their first tablet, the 7-inch MOTOPAD with Android 3.0 under the hood. Wow, MOTOPAD. Didn’t see that name coming. Dell is the largest PC manufacturer of India and the US giant has now forayed in the India’s 30K crore mobile market with its XCD smartphones. With such reputable name entering smartphone segment of India, the other mobile making firms viz. Nokia, Motorola and Samsung are going to get tough competition. The Dell smartphones XCD28 & XCD35 are highly advanced 3G mobiles working on Google’s Android 2.1 operating system. The respective prices of XCD28 and XCD35 smartphones are Rs.10,990 and 16,990 in Indian market.
These relatively cheap and affordable smartphones another highlight would be their 3G services. Indian telecom market is fastest growing in the world and is eagerly waiting for 3G services to launch for witnessing another boom. Individually, the most prominent feature of Dell XCD35 is its 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen and 3 MP camera. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm 600MHZ processor, 256MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM. On the other hand, Dell XCD28 handset model has a 2.8-inches resistive touch screen plus a 3.15MP camera. Other feature includes Microsoft e-mail exchange, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In fact, all the Android market applications can also be easily accessed on these smartphones which will amuse most young people greatly. The XCD smartphones, XCD28 & XCD35 are touch-screen mobile phones from Dell customised to suit the Indian buyers needs and mentalities. Presence of a FM radio very well establishes that thought.
Dell has launched XCD range of smartphones first in India unlike before when Dell products used to come later in the country after launching elsewhere. This might be a strategic move as the company’s market research very well establishes the fact that India adds around 20 M subscribers every month and increases base to 500M subscribers. In that huge number, about 25% owe one or the other type of smartphone. Yet, Dell has plans and it may also launch the XCD smartphones in some other countries.

PC World is reporting today that Apple has filed suit against Android handset developer Motorola, for infringing on their multi-touch patents. Specifically, Apple is saying that Motorola infringed on this patent by including multi-touch on the following Android devices:
- Droid
- Droid 2
- Droid X
- Cliq
- Cliq XT
- BackFlip
- Devour A555
- Devour i1
- Charm
The PC World article references a piece from Patently Apple, talking about the specifics of the lawsuit. Namely, the fact that Motorola used multi point screens on their devices, among other alleged infringements dealing with using more than one finger or pointing device to manipulate a device.
What is interesting is the lawsuit comes after Motorola filed suit against Apple for 20 different patent infringements dealing with a myriad number of issues. The move on Apple’s part could be seen as a counter suit to above mentioned attack from Motorola. We live in a day and age where big companies have whole staff’s of lawyers whose entire existence is to find people to sue for patent and copyright infringements, bringing in a strong source of revenue as companies know that it is cheaper to settle out of court than go through a whole trial.
But the question must be asked; is Apple using these lawsuits to attack Android through one of the major handset manufacturers for the platform? We have seen lately just how concerned Apple CEO Steve Jobs is with Android, so it is not too much of a stretch to think about the idea that Apple sees multi layered benefits to suing a company that brought itself back from the edge of extinction using the Android platform.
Of course, it could just be a matter of business, and the idea that Apple is going after Android through Motorola just a wild jump in my mind, but, I can’t seem to shake the thought that it is very interesting that Apple isn’t suing all manufacturers of Smart Phones using multi-touch. Time will tell as the suits move forward.

The Droid 2 Global handset has resurfaced in Verizon’s carrier’s inventory. The device was noticed alongside the Droid Pro, which caused confusion when the Pro turned out to also be a global handset.
The Droid 2 Global is expected to be a global version of the Droid 2 slider, with quad-band GSM support and Android 2.2. Leaked specs point to a 1.2GHz CPU, a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and dual LED flash, and 8GB of integrated storage.
Like the Droid Pro, the Droid 2 Global is said to be aimed at business customers.
A fresh new Verizon Wireless rebate sheet emerged Friday and brought with it some confusion. On the sheet, the upcoming Motorola DROID 2 Global had two associated SKUs.
Since two separate versions of the unreleased DROID Pro were recently discovered — one with a camera and one without — it was assumed that these SKUs represented a standard DROID 2 Global and a second version sans-camera.
Leaked Costco Inventory System Image
The screen shot seen above, delivered from an anonymous source, shows two versions of the Motorola DROID 2 Global within the Costco inventory system. The difference between them, as it turns out, is the color.
Fans of white phones will be happy to learn that the DROID 2 Global will be released in both black and white when it finally does launch next month. Both versions will be $199.99 on contract. We still have no firm release date for these 1.2GHz beasts.
