The iPad honeymoon is now no longer restricted to United States and is spreading like fire all over the world. eBay, the world’s most popular online shopping mall is reported to have sold nearly 5,300 units across the world since the iPad launch. Nearly 65% of these iPads were sold abroad and the rest 35% to buyers in United States. UK leads the pack with 15% of iPad foreign sales on eBay. Statistics also reveal that Arabs in UAE are most obsessed with the iPad and have happily paid hefty premiums to the tunes of $500 to grab their iPads.
The international launch of iPad is slated for May 28 and preorders are expected to start shipping on June 7. However, not everyone is patient enough to wait another three weeks to lay their hands on the iPad. If you are a gadget freak, chances are that you’ve already been searching fanatically to buy your iPad ASAP. Many iPad owners have hit a jackpot by selling their iPad on eBay. It’s much better off earning a profit on eBay rather than opting for Apple’s returns and exchanges policy, which gives buyers two weeks to change their mind. What’s more, if you opened your iPad, you need to pay a restocking fee ranging from $60 to $83 depending on the model you purchased.
Europe accounts for nearly 2,300 iPads sold through eBay. With the iPad expected to be available in the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain and Switzerland on May 28, I’d expect the eBay iPad sales to take a dip. However, the iPad will not be available until July in many countries including Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore. Therefore, it is expected that users from these countries will continue looking for iPad deals on eBay and other online stores.
Apple does not plan to ship the iPad to UAE in near future. I bet that’s going to change if Jobs and company looks at the whopping premiums paid by UAE customers to grab an iPad on eBay. Can’t wait for May 28? Head to eBay and grab your iPad now!
