I just posted a few reasons why you should upgrade to HTC Evo 4G. What about switching from Palm Pre Plus to iPhone 4. The new iPhone looks like having so much more than Palm Pre Plus has to offer. 1GHZ vs. 600mhz processor speed, 960 x 640 vs. 480 x 320 screen resolution, 5 megapixel camera vs. 3 megapixel, and 720p videos at 30fps vs. VGA at 30fps. Plus there are so many more apps for iPhone than for Palm Pre. What’s keeping you from upgrading to iPhone 4 from Palm Pre Plus – carrier/network, price, or features?

We already know Palm Pre is not 4G ready, so why not upgrade to HTC Evo 4G now for a great price? Every spec on Evo is more favorable than that from Palm Pre. The only thing some of the long time Palm users might be concerned is the lack of physical keyboard – but trust me, you don’t need one after you play with Evo for a day or two. The absence of physical keyboard actually is a big advantage – the phone is lighter and slimmer. We have HTC Evo for sale now for $189.99. For a limited time, this price is good for new account, upgrade, or add-a-line. Price is cheaper than what the retail stores offer plus you don’t need to file a rebate claim at all. Upgrade to HTC Evo today and save more money!

For those who want new phones for Verizon June 2010, here is a list of Verizon Wireless phones worth checking out in June – LG Ally and LG Fathom. Both are smartphones. The LG Ally runs on the latest Android 2.1 while Fathom is a Windows phone running on Windows Mobile Professional 6.5. For anyone new to the smartphone world, the Ally is a great a place to start. Although I am not a big fan of Windows phones, I always have trouble opening old version of Excel files (especially older versions) on Palm Pre, Android, and iPhone. On Windows Mobile phones, it’s no trouble at all. So, for someone who would like to take their Microsoft documents to go anywhere the LG Fathom looks like a better choice. Prices are not yet finalized. Expect $100 rebates from retail stores on these new phones for Verizon in June 2010.

You probably don’t need to buy insurance for your cell phone if the phone itself doesn’t cost much. What about smartphones like Blackberry? Should I purchase a device protection plan for my smartphones? Smart phones are expensive without contract. Depending on the hardware specs, they can cost anywhere from $400 to $600. You can get a decent laptop with that much money these days.

Let’s take HTC DROID INCREDIBLE for example. It costs $599 without a service plan. So, what happens when it breaks after just a few months, and if you don’t have a Verizon mobile device protection plan? In that case you would have to pay $599 for the exact same phone. That’s a lot of money to pay for a new mobile phone. So, what can you do to protect your investment? Buy a smartphone protection plan from Verizon Wireless for $7.99 a month. I know that’s $2 more than the insurance you have to pay for a flip phone. But it’s a very fair deal. Here is the break down:

1. You pay $150 for the DROID Incredible with a new contract.
2. Opt in the mobile device protection service for $7.99/month
3. When your smartphone doesn’t work, file claim right away.
4. pay $89 deductible once the claim is approved.

Let’s say your new smartphone stop working on the 12th month. At that time you already pay $95.88 in total equipment protection fee. Add the $89 deductible you will end up paying $184.88 in total. That means for $184.88 you will be able to replace your broken smartphone with a new a refurbished one. That’s a very good deal consider the retail price for smartphone like HTC DROID INCREDIBLE costs $599.

I highly recommend getting a smartphone protection plan if you had a habit of losing or breaking your phone in the first 12 months. Otherwise, just be extra careful with your new phone. Good luck.

According to the most recent statics, 1 out of every 5 wireless devices in the US may be stolen or accidentally damaged this year. Should I buy insurance for my cell phone? Well, it depends on the equipment and how extensively you will be using your phone. The cost of cell phone insurance is not cheap, especially for advanced devices like Blackberry smartphones. For a regular phone like flip phone or candy bar phone, Verizon Wireless charges $5.99 a month and you would have to pay $39 deductible with each approved claim.

Let’s say you bought a LG Accolade for $69.99 with a 2-year contract and start paying $5.99 cell phone insurance. At the end of 12th month, your phone is broken. At that point you have already paid $71.88. Then you call up the cell phone insurance company and verify that phone is covered. Now you have to pay $39 to get a replacement phone (same or of equivalent value) shipped to you. One thing to keep in mind is that in most cases they will send you a refurbished phone. So you end up paying $110.88. A brand new LG Accolade costs $199 without contract (12 months ago). Is it worth buying insurance for a new phone? No, at this time, you can definitely purchase the same mobile phone from eBay for $100. In the next post, we will talk about the insurance for smartphones.

Do you know that you can keep the same cell phone number when switching carriers? It’s very easy to do, especially online. Here are some steps and tips on how to switch carriers and keep phone number.

When placing a new phone order online, you sure you click on the box that says “switch my old cell phone number to my new phone and plan”. The wording might be different depending on online authorized retailer’s storefront setting. When you receive you phone, it may take up to 24 hours to complete the phone number transfer. In most cases, your mobile number has already been ported to the new cell phone by the time you receive it. And as soon as the old cell phone has been transferred to the new phone you should contact your old service provider to cancel service. That’s all you need to know on how to switch carriers and keep the same phone number.

For anyone who are currently owning or planning to own a Verizon cell phone, here are some tips on how to save money on Verizon wireless.

First, when you sign up for a new Verizon plan, don’t feel pushed by the salesperson to add features like Mobile TV and unlimited text messaging that you don’t use often. If you do decide to use them simply sign up on a later date.

Second, never sign up for individual plan for each phone. The very basic individual plan costs $39.99. So 2 phones can cost you $80 or more. On the other hand, signing up a family plan can really save money on Verizon Wireless bill. Starting at $69.99 for 2 phones, any additional will only cost $9.99 more.

One last tip – buy Verizon phones with instant rebates. There are just too much hassles involved when it comes to mail-in rebates. Instead of waiting months and then find out you are not qualified because of missed the deadline or missing required documents, you can get the savings right away from authorized online dealers.

Good luck!

Do I need to sign a new contract to add a line Verizon Wireless or other carriers? No, you don’t have to extend your current contract or sign a new one in order to add a line to existing family plan. Many of us thought that every time you add a line your contract expiration date gets renewed. That’s totally not true. In fact each line in the same account has its own expiration date. So, now that you know Add-A-Line does not require a new contract at all and every new additional line is eligible for steep discount regardless how many existing lines you have, it’s time to get a new phone.

Well the rumor that has been go round last week is almost true. Will HTC buy Palm? So what is the future of Palm as it’s preparing to sell itself to another company? Who have the extra money to burn? HTC, RIM, Lenovo, Google, or whoever may be interested? WebOS is a great product and certainly beats many other smartphones in the market today, but there is a long way to catch up. For those potential buyer that already have their own OS like RIM and Google, I don’t think it’s a good idea to mix WebOS with Android or Blackberry. HTC and Lenovo seem to be the right candidates to take the WebOS to the next level. HTC is a better suitor in my opinion. Will HTC buy Palm? If HTC can put WebOS on every Google Phone and Windows Mobile hardware – the WebOS can dominate again. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

In case you can’t wait for HTC Evo 4G Sale Verizon Wireless have DROID Incredible for sale at the end of April or early May. Price should be a bit higher than the DROID Eris and I would guess $199 should be a reasonable after rebates in retail stores. Of course, we will post the best deals on DROID Incredible here once our advertiser has the final online exclusive price. In terms of specs, the HTC DROID Incredible is close to Evo 4G but lacking HDMI and 4G. The HTC Incredible measures 4.63 x 2.30 x 0.47 inches and weighs 4.6 oz while HT EVO measures 4.80 x 2.60 x 0.50 inches and weighs 6 oz. Both phone screens have high resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Given all the intense competition out there, don’t be surprised to find DROID Incredible for sale here at $50 or lower. We will definitely keep you posted on the latest price.

One year ago this time we were very hopeful that Palm Pre was the answer for Apple’s iPhone. One year has passed and iPhone OS will get a major update to 4.0. Can Palm Pre still compete with iPhone? The most important feature that has been missing since day one – multitasking! Palm and Android phones used to tout the ability of multitasking as an advantage over iPhone. That’s gone now. Palm needs to catch up quick! If they have the 2.0 ready for the development community shouldn’t they have released it by now? Or they can care less since there are not that many apps out there? Palm can’t seriously be in the smartphone game without pushing a better hardware and software (we like WebOS, but please make it better). Palm already have 3 major carriers onboard while Apple only has AT&T. Can you imagine when the iPhone becomes available on every carrier in the U.S.? What can Palm do to position itself for the fierce completion from Apple and Google?

We are still a couple of months away from HTC Evo 4G release date. For those of you who got the first Palm Pre in June 2009, it’s your chance to switch from Palm Pre to HTC Evo 4G. At that time you should be eligible for a discount. And for those of you who are already with Sprint for 2 years or more you will get even more discount – $200 or more depending on account standing and length of service. OK, just a precaution here, before you make the switch, makes sure to backup all the contact on the Palm Pre onto your PC. There are some quick and easy way to transfer all your contact information from one phone to another (we will visit this topic in a later post). So, any traitors out there are thinking to switch?
