Gp Import Inc. has recently released an iPhone application named Camera Dialer. The idea is neat and it allows you to make a call without actually dialing the number.

Here is how it works. Sometimes, you may see a sales ad on the street with a phone number within the advertisement. When you want to call up the number, you normally launch the dial pad and key in the number directly to make the call. With Camera Dialer, it turns dialing into point-and-shoot. You can simply launch the application, which then activates the camera with a green rectangular box. Just make sure you frame the phone number inside the box and the application automatically recognizes the number, and dial it right away.

The idea is pretty cool. It’s quick and can recognize the number under usual lighting. However, is this approach really faster or more convenient than simply tapping the number? The company has mentioned several possible use cases including dialing number in business card or business signs. Sorry, it’s not very convincing. Personally, I still prefer to key in the number directly. It’s much quicker and with better accuracy.

Anyhow, Camera Dialer is still a cool iPhone application. If you find this app interesting, you can simply click this direct iTunes link to download. It’s now available at App Store for US$0.99. If you think of any good use of the application, remember to write back and let us know.
